Parameter identification of linear induction motor model in extended range of operation by means of input-output data

2012

This paper proposes a technique for the off-line estimation of the electrical parameters of the equivalent circuit of linear induction machines (LIM), taking into consideration the end effects, and focuses on the application of an algorithm based on the minimization of a suitable cost function involving the differences of measured and computed by simulation inductor current components. This method exploits an entire start-up transient of the LIM to estimate all the 4 electrical parameters of the machine (Rs, L s, σ Ls, Tr). It proposes also a set of tests to be made to estimate the variation of the magnetic parameters of the LIM versus the magnetizing current as well as the magnetizing curv…

A Ferrite Tubular Linear Motor (FTLM): Analysis and design

2015

The electromagnetic linear machines have wide applications in the electromagnetic aircraft launch systems [1] and in transportation systems [2]. Additional energy saving and efficiency can be achieved using a linear motor in the refrigeration application [3]. Linear electromagnetic machines are also very suitable for high-speed packaging, manufacturing sectors and precision positioning. There are different linear motor topologies. Tubular permanent-magnets are particularly attractive since they have a high thrust force density and high efficiency, no end windings, and zero net attractive force between stator and armature. There are various tubular motor topologies, in which the armature may…

Experimental comparison between direct and indirect measurement techniques for the characterization of Linear Induction Motors

1997

Abstract An experimental comparison between direct and indirect measurement techniques for the on-line characterization of Linear Induction Motors (LIMs) is presented. Indirect measurements are based on a mathematical model of the motors. Direct measurements are carried out by means of traditional instruments and a smart sensor, located on the LIM and linked to the controller by the power supply line. Both a synthetic description of the LIM model and the sensor architecture are reported. The experimental results, achieved by applying different feeding strategy, are discussed.

A model of a linear synchronous motor based on distribution theory

2012

The fundamental idea of this paper is to use the distribution theory to analyze linear machines in order to include in the mathematical model both ideal and non ideal features. This paper shows how distribution theory can be used to establish a mathematical model able to describe both the ordinary working condition of a Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) as well the role of the unavoidable irregularities and non ideal features.

Descriptor-type Kalman Filter and TLS EXIN Speed Estimate for Sensorless Control of a Linear Induction Motor.

2014

This paper proposes a speed observer for linear induction motors (LIMs), which is composed of two parts: 1) a linear Kalman filter (KF) for the online estimation of the inductor currents and induced part flux linkage components; and 2) a speed estimator based on the total least squares (TLS) EXIN neuron. The TLS estimator receives as inputs the state variables, estimated by the KF, and provides as output the LIM linear speed, which is fed back to the KF and the control system. The KF is based on the classic space-vector model of the rotating induction machine. The end effects of the LIMs have been considered an uncertainty treated by the KF. The TLS EXIN neuron has been used to compute, in …

Field analysis of the magnetic systems for tubular linear reluctance motors

2005

We report a study of tubular linear reluctance motors (TLRMs) in various types of magnetic circuits. We carried out magnetic field analyses and calculated integral parameters of the field. We also determined static characteristics and electromagnetic parameters of the motor. We found good agreement between our calculations and tests of the motor with sinusoidal excitation.

A Lagrangian Approach to the Electromechanical Aspects of the Superconducting Magnets for Maglev

1994

The superconducting magnets for Maglev are exposed during their operation to strong time dependent fields, which can cause losses and therefore can affect the stability of the magnets. In this work the electromechanical behaviour of a superconducting magnet, which is used as field magnet of a linear synchronous motor, is examined.

Autonomous artificial nanomotor powered by sunlight

2006

Light excitation powers the reversible shuttling movement of the ring component of a rotaxane between two stations located at a 1.3-nm distance on its dumbbell-shaped component. The photoinduced shuttling movement, which occurs in solution, is based on a “four-stroke” synchronized sequence of electronic and nuclear processes. At room temperature the deactivation time of the high-energy charge-transfer state obtained by light excitation is ≈10 μs, and the time period required for the ring-displacement process is on the order of 100 μs. The rotaxane behaves as an autonomous linear motor and operates with a quantum efficiency up to ≈12%. The investigated system is a unique example of an artif…

A field-network model of a linear oscillating motor and its dynamics characteristics

2005

We describe a method of modeling of the dynamics characteristics for linear oscillating motors. We used electromagnetic finite-element analysis in the network model, which contains the electric circuit and mechanical equations. We compared the integral parameters of the electromagnetic field with the measured ones. We also compared the calculated and measured waves of the stator current for two values of supply voltage. The comparison yields a good agreement.
